Four Training Levels
At Peaceful Paws Dog Training in Grawn, Michigan, we offer a flexible training approach that benefits both dog and owner. This group program allows dogs to enjoy unlimited training for the entire duration of the program they are enrolled in. Through this, it becomes easier for you to manage time.
1: Starting Out
Level 1: Starting Out
Dogs are introduced to basic commands, such as sit, down, stationary attention, and the name game. We also work on problem behaviors such as jumping, play-biting, and house training. All dogs (even those with prior training) start out on this level.
Requirements to move to Level 2: Dog sits and gets down on command, as well as responds readily to its name with mild distractions.
2: Manners Training
Level 2: Manners Training
We work on your dog’s walking politely on a loose leash without pulling and while paying attention to the owner and ignoring other dogs. Training also begins on come and stay. Level 2 includes problem-solving information for behaviors such as barking, digging, chewing, and more.
Requirements to move to Level 3: Dog walks nicely around the training area with attention fixed on the owner (and no pulling) with other dogs four to five feet away. Dogs also learn to abide when called on the leash, even with mild distractions.
3: Adding Distractions
Level 3: Adding Distractions
At Level 3, dogs learn to heed long-distance come and stay commands, with distractions. They also learn to manage loose-leash walking past distractions and obey distance commands.
Requirements to move to Level 4: Dogs stay for 30 seconds, with mild distractions and the owner standing on the leash. They also learn to heel past other dogs with leash over owner's shoulder. Dogs heed come commands from 20 feet away, even with moderate distractions.
4: Advanced Training
Level 4: Advanced Training
We work on polishing the come command and teach your dog to heed an emergency come command. Next, we strengthen the stay command by teaching the dog to stay for longer periods of time at a greater distance from the owner. This is followed by turns and automatic sit-in heeling lessons.
Level 4 goals: Dogs must learn to heel off-leash past other dogs and distractions and stay 10 feet away from the owner for three minutes, with distractions. Also, your dog must know how to come off the leash past distractions from 30 feet away.
